This card is my submission for today's TLC226 challenge, a technique challenge for making faux denim.
My daughter's birthday is Christmas Eve, so ever since she started elementary school, we have celebrated her birthday with a family party (cake, ice cream, presents) on her half birthday on June 24. It's just so much easier and more relaxed doing it that way! (And then she gets presents in the winter and in the summer, instead of all at once in December). Anyway, we are celebrating her 10 1/2 birthday in just a few days and I needed a card for her day. She is a *huge* horse lover, so this technique challenge was perfect for making her a "western" style card with denim, bandannas (TLC220 bandanna technique), and, of course, a beautiful horse.
I had to play around with the faux denim technique several times before I found something that I was satisfied with. My inks ended up being too dark on blue paper and you couldn't see the texture. So I switched to white cardstock and was happier with that. I ended up skipping the white ink altogether (I never could get it to look right); using white paper made up for that. I think my denim turned out to look kind of acid-washed.
I used my sewing machine to stitch around the denim and bandanna layers. The bow is embroidery floss (I've been using a lot of that lately!). I colored in the horse image with colored pencils. I created the bandanna background with a set of paisley stamps and a white gel pen. I love that technique!!
Thanks for looking!
Emily

Great job with the technique Emily - it really looks like denim! It coordinates so well with the red bandana-like background. And the stitching is the perfect touch. I hope your daughter has a very happy half birthday.
